When a project captures the attention of our community and headlines across local media, we take notice. Recent coverage in The Columbus Dispatch spotlighted the excitement around The Capital Line, a $100 million “urban pathway” that will transform the heart of Downtown Columbus. And the coverage is warranted: this project is changing streetscapes and the way people experience and move through our city.
At MurphyEpson, we’re proud to support Downtown Columbus, Inc. in engaging the community, sharing information and helping people understand what this project means for the future of Downtown Columbus. Our team has provided pre-construction communication and will continue to support the project to help business owners, employees, residents and patrons stay informed and connected throughout the Cap Line project, ensuring they know what to expect, how to access their destinations and how the improvements will ultimately enhance mobility and the Downtown experience.
The Capital Line will span two miles; along Gay, Rich and Fourth Streets, crossing the Scioto River to Belle Street in Franklinton, creating a vibrant, landscaped corridor for pedestrians and cyclists. It’s inspired by celebrated mobility corridors like the Indianapolis Cultural Trail and Miami’s Underline. The Capital Line will blend movement and placemaking through greenery, art, seating and safe spaces for walking and biking. Along the way, it will connect beloved destinations such as the Scioto Mile, COSI and Columbus Commons.

The first phase, currently in design, will begin on Gay Street. Parking lanes will give way to tree-lined sidewalks, outdoor seating, performance spaces and protected bike lanes. Construction will begin with vault and utility work, with completion anticipated in 2027-2028.
MurphyEpson thrives on projects that move people, literally and figuratively.
Our team is energized by work that connects people to opportunity, community and one another. We have partnerships with COTA and LinkUS to shape the future of Central Ohio transit, the Ohio Department of Transportation to enhance safety and connectivity, and other cities and counties to bring infrastructure stories to life.
The Capital Line is a similar journey, a project that reflects how thoughtful design, communication and engagement can turn a vision into a reality.
