What Does MurphyEpson Actually Do?

Hannah Heald

My family and friends always ask, “So … what is it you do?”

It’s a fair question, and I'm not going to lie, I almost didn’t know what I was getting myself into when I first started as an intern last summer. Now, I’ve been promoted to Account Coordinator at MurphyEpson, an agency specializing in communications, engagement and public affairs.

Our work can be somewhat niche, but it’s vitally important. We’re in the business of storytelling, but not the kind you typically think about when yout hink of public relations. We help our partners – both public and private – tell their stories in deeply impactful ways. We help them connect with the people they serve in ways that are clear, honest and relatable.

One of our pillars is community engagement: meaningful conversations that build trust and create space for the public to ask questions, share concerns and get involved in the things that affect their everyday lives. That might look like a public meeting for a new water line, a neighborhood flyer about upcoming construction or a video that explains how a sump pump can protect your home from basement flooding.

It’s easy to overlook infrastructure and public planning until something goes wrong. We try to be there before then, translating complex, technical projects into messages people understand and care about. We help bridge the gap between engineers, city planners and the communities they serve.

In my role, I help coordinate the entire process – from tracking community contacts and organizing meeting sign-ins to crafting social media posts or writing copy that makes municipal language more digestible for our neighbors. I make sure the story reaches the people it’s meant to reach. This is especially important as Central Ohio grows – when there are more stakeholders and voices, we ensure the right ones (or at least a representative group) are heard.

We believe people deserve to know what’s happening on their street, in their neighborhood or to their water system. They deserve the opportunity to weigh in, ask questions and be kept up to speed.

Put simply, we invite everyone to have a seat at the table.

Since I’ve been at MurphyEpson, I’ve learned engagement is the foundation for building stronger communities. MurphyEpson understands the need for authentic connection and is leading the engagement charge in our region.

I’m so honored and excited to be part of the process!
